Stanley Kubrick is one of the most brilliant filmmakers ever. He made only a few films in his life, but most of them are regarded as works of true genius. He has collided with Pink Floyd a few times during the years. In 1971 Kubrick was shooting "A Clockwork Orange". He had heard Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother and asked for permission to use some of it in his film. But Pink Floyd did not agree to this idea, probably because the band would have no control of how the music was going to be used.
In 1997 Roger Waters recorded his album Amused To Death. Waters was eager to use a sampling of a voice from the HAL9000 computer from the film "2001 - A Space Odyssey". The classic science fiction film is directed by Stanley Kubrick based on the book by Arthur C. Clarke. This time Kubrick refused. Instead Waters included a "secret message" recorded backwards in the beginning of the song Perfect Sense part 1. During his 1999/2000 In The Flesh tour, the movie "2001" was shown on a TV-screen on stage.
Stanley Kubrick died shortly after finishing "Eyes Wide Shut". Steven Spielberg finished and directed A.I. Artificial Intelligence - a prject started by Kubrick.
