Compilation album with music by Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Barclay James Harvest,Battered Ornaments,
Shirley & Dolley Collins, Pretty Things, Bakerloo,Kevin Ayers, Forest, Pete Brown & Piblokto,
Panama Limited, Quatermass, Michael Chapman, Third Ear Band, Roy Harper and Edgar Broughton Band. Tracks on the original "picnic" includes: Pink Floyd: Embryo and Syd Barrett: Terrapin. Embryo was put on the album in without approval from Pink Floyd, and as a result the 'Picnic' was quickly withdrawn.

In 2007 a compilation with the name "A breath Of Fresh Air" was released as a 3CD set from the EMI/Harvest label. Most of the bands featured are the same as on the original "Picnic", but the track list is different. The CD set includes Careful With That Axe Eugene, Embryo, Breathe (Waters/Geesin) and Baby Lemonade and Octopus by Syd Barrett.

Embryo was recorded i 1969 for 'Ummagumma', but Pink Floyd were not satisfied with the recording. In 1970 EMI got Norman Smith to make a mix of the song anyway - and without accept from the band 'Embryo' were suddenly released on the compilation album 'Picnic'. The album was withdrawn, but later the same version of 'Embryo' were released on 'Works'.

On live recordings (bootleg) of 'Embryo' you can hear a relationship with 'Several Species Of Small furry Animals...'.
